About the Author

Kristen D’Angelo is a licensed social worker, poet, musician, and photographer. She is the co-founder of Cross Breeze Charities which supports healthcare, educational and religious organizations through grants to initiate therapeutic butterfly gardens. She has had a popular butterfly-themed website, online retail shop, and blog, Obsession with Butterflies since 2000. Her poetry and stunning photographs of butterflies have been published by the Xerces Society and the North American Butterfly Association. She is a frequent lecturer on butterflies and butterfly gardening at the Los Angeles Arboretum, natural history museums, and garden centers throughout Southern California. She lives in Ladera Ranch, California.

About the Illustrator

Maryjo Koch is an accomplished naturalist painter who has authored and illustrated nearly two dozen books including the best-selling Dragonfly Beetle Butterfly Bee and Eat, Sleep, Fly: A Butterfly’s View of Life. She conducts painting workshops year round in her Bonny Doon, California studio and has led workshops abroad in Alaska, Italy, and England. She schedules special workshops throughout the year at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Filoli Gardens, and California State University Monterey Bay for the Science Illustration program. Her work has been exhibited in many natural history museums and galleries including the California Academy of Sciences, the University of California Santa Cruz Norris Center, and the UCSC Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery. Her artwork has been featured on fine housewares products and a wide range of gift and stationery products by retailers and publishers such as Schurman Fine Papers, Earth Sky + Water (nature folding guides and gift cards), The Republic of Tea, HarperCollins Publishers, and Chronicle Books.
